HIDDEN HILLS, Los Angeles County — October 24, 2026. Hidden Hills is explaining how its new public-safety cameras work after installing three Flock Safety automated license-plate reader (ALPR) cameras at community entrances. The city published an official FAQ on September 30, 2026 addressing which information is captured, who can access it, how long it is kept and how use of the system is audited.
Why this information matters
ALPR systems collect identifying information about vehicles. Law-enforcement agencies may use that information to investigate specific incidents, but public questions about the limits and oversight of such systems are legitimate. A city announcement should not be confused with an independent audit of the actual camera database or a finding about the lawfulness of particular searches.
The city’s official news page lists the September FAQ and an earlier statement that the installation of cameras at gated entrances had been completed. The page describes three cameras, not a system known to monitor every vehicle movement throughout the city. The current field of view, data-sharing agreement and technical configuration require review of the published policies and contracts.
Which questions should residents ask?
Residents can ask for the actual retention and deletion periods, whether other jurisdictions can run searches, how staff are authorized, which logs or audits are kept, and how a mistaken plate reading may be addressed. Rules for access should be confirmed in the city’s ALPR policy and agreements, not assumed from generic product marketing or the practices of an unrelated California municipality.
How to obtain reliable records
City Hall’s main contact details are 6165 Spring Valley Road and 818-888-9281. Residents can request the latest public policy, applicable procurement and council approval records, and any released compliance information. Requests should protect personal information about residents, witnesses and victims that is not necessary to the issue being examined.
Hidden Hills also took part in the Craftsman’s Corner annexation this August. The camera system and the annexation are separate municipal developments and neither should be falsely presented as proof of a causal relationship with the other.
